A square vertical baluster/pole from 3/8 inch to 1 ½ inches (1 ½ inch is a standard wood baluster). A round vertical baluster/pole from 3/8 inch to 2 inches. *Longer bolts will need to be used for square balusters/poles larger than 1 ½ inches.
