For the price you pay, this is great, but not perfect.

WHAT I WAS WANTING:I own 2 cats, one of which is 13 years old, has daily hairballs, and gets sick off and on (vomits or has accidents). I was in need of something to clean these places. Having a one and a half year old throwing food all over the carpet adds to the issue too. I HAD a Bissell SpotBot that I just threw out a few weeks ago, and that sucker was 10 years old. It had barely started to leak just shortly before that. My complaint with that thing was that it left circular marks all over my house in every spot that I cleaned the carpet. Very very noticeable, and the newer Spotbots were a little out of my current price range, so I opted for this.PROS:- Very small and lightweight, it can be stored anywhere and would even be a perfect carpet cleaner for elderly folk due to it's light weight. I keep mine in one of my kitchen cabinets.- It does a quick thorough job of cleaning spots. You spray the solution onto your stain from the sprayer right above the suction intake, and let it sit for about 2 or 3 minutes, turn this sucker on, spray a dab more of solution, and I have gotten up anything from spilt juice, milk, tomato sauce stains, cat barf/pee/other, to green marker ink stains. The brushes and suction mixture have really proved to clean quite well.- This thing has a rechargeable battery, which is a nice feature versus the SpotBot I had before had a very short cord and really limited areas in my home that I could easily clean. The shape and cordless-ness of this allows you to clean pretty much anywhere.- Although I can't say much for longevity of this product yet, as I have only had it for a few weeks, I will say for BISSELL as a product period is great. Like I mentioned before, the SpotBot I had was 10 years old, lasted through my mother giving it years of abuse, and then myself using it every week for the past few years. It still worked when I threw it out too, just leaked. Also, we have a BISSELL vacuum cleaner that is 3 and a half years, still works just fine.- Very easy to clean. Wipe down the outside with a wet cloth, throw the entire front half/intake tank in the dishwasher for good disinfecting after rinsing it out and pulling hair out of the brushes.- Very affordable. This is one of the cheapest name-brand hand-held carpet cleaners on the market.CONS:- I'm not too impressed with the battery life so far. The first day I got this item, I charged it for a couple of hours, and then quickly got to work with spots that already accumulated in my home while waiting for this item to arrive. It apparently needed a lot longer than 2 hours to charge right before it's first use. I was only able to clean a couple of small spots. So I charged it overnight the next time, which proved to be a little better, but was still not superb. Also, today before I wrote this review, my old cat got very sick, vomitting in about 8 places all over my house. The spotlifter wasn't dead when I got it out, but charged it for about an hour and a half before getting to work, and it died after cleaning 3 of the 8 places. My conclusion with this is that this was truly designed for "Uh oh! I just spilled my drink in this one small spot!" I am dissapointed, but will still be able to make this work.- Pros sometimes create cons. Although the small compact size of this thing is really awesome, it creates the issue of a small cleaning solution tank, which does run out really really quickly, and a small intake tank, which has to be dumped pretty quickly as well. Once again, this thing is built for small jobs.- While dumping the tank one of the three times it took me this morning to finish cleaning my carpet, I noticed another irritating flaw. The button that you press on the top of this unit is not super easy to hold down and release the intake tank so I can dump all my dirty water, especially when my hands are wet and slippery from refilling the cleaning solution tank. Infact, one of the times I was trying to get it open, I bent a fingernail backwards and scratched my hand. Oww!!- For dirty dirty jobs that require a little elbow grease, this thing might take some preparing before you start to actually use the Spotlifter. I start to "scrub" with the machine to use the brushes, which results in the sloshing of the built up dirty water in the intake tank, making some of it come out somewhere and leak on the carpet. Keep the tank very very empty, and dont violently scrub with this. If something needs that much work to make clean, do some pre-cleaning before going over it with this thing.CONCLUSION:I don't regret my purchase, as this thing is proving to be a good cleaner, I just really wish the battery life was a lot longer, and the tanks were a little bigger. You get what you pay for. If you are wanting something that does heavy duty work, cleans entire rooms, etc etc, get something a lot bigger than this. This truly is for small spots, and barely accomplishes what I need done with it.Money Saving Tip: Don't buy the fancy cleaning solution BISSELL sells. Go to somewhere like Sam's Club and buy the big industrial sized carpet cleaning solution. It works even better to be honest, a lot more concentrated than the overpriced BISSELL stuff.

Great buy

Bought it because I have an 8 week old puppy, and it's been worth its weight in gold. The water it pulls up is disgusting and brown, and these carpets are so ancient and dirt-trapping (not to mention they've had a prior dog that soiled inside regularly,) it's taking multiple passes to come clean. But unless you have ancient carpet in a leased house, it does the charm perfectly (we have new carpet in the rooms, and this thing finishes the job in one or two passes tops)Suction is great, the floor is left with a dampness on par with a real floor cleaner, and its size is compact enough to fill the job described very well. It has murdered old feces stains over a year old from the previous tenant's dog, and the only complaint I have about this is that it leaves spots that were filthy looking cleaner than the rest of the carpet! I'm going to have to eventually do my entire house with this little bugger.I do somewhat wish it was corded, however, because 7 minutes of time is just not really worth it for a 12 hour charge. I'd prefer to have a little more time to make multiple passes and ensure a good cleaning. The only cons are it doesn't hold much cleaning fluid at all, and the resevoir is also small. But if all you're doing is making two or three passes over a single spot, it's perfectly adequate. As for removing the tank, it's quite easy. The button is initially hard to press, but I do like that feeling of "it won't come loose anytime soon." Also, putting it back in is a snap. I don't know how anyone can complain about this. Sure, it doesn't have runway lights and a little man flagging your approach, but just set the bottom lip inside and click it in. It's not rocket science.Anyone who got it spitting fluid out of the motor fans was grossly overfilling it. The tank has a FILL LINE, and it's a bit bigger than the fluid resevoir (allowing you to pre-treat with fluid outside of the built-in method.) So sure, if you try to refill the storage tank without emptying the dirty water tank, you'll get water spit out. Boo-hoo for people who use appliances improperly.I'm knocking off a star because I just feel like it would do an even better job if it had the option of a cord, or corded model, as well as cordless. All the other corded models are twice as expensive, too. If it was corded, it could possible integrate a brush, as well. As it stands, the brush has to be removed and used by hand, but it's very easily popped in and off, and stays secure. And somehow it just feels like it could do better on the battery life.A few usage tips: it does come with fluid, so you aren't REQUIRED to buy some (I bought some pet specific bissel concentrate that works amazingly well) and make sure you pre-treat the area (It says to pre-treat by turning it on and using the spray button, but I find this to be too big a risk on the battery life. I just used the suggested ratios of the machine's cleaning fluid and water in a spray bottle and simply use that first) and give it a very light scrub with the brush to knock soil loose. Then make sure you press the machine into the spot very firmly as you move it across the carpet, if you want the best suction (remember, it doesn't have the bulk of a large room cleaner already, it needs some help from you) I'd also suggest against storing fluid in it. You'll get much better results filling it when you need it with hot water and concentrate. Cold water cleaning is just not as effective. But overall, If you have kids, or light carpet that stains easily, or pets (even older pets track mud in once in a while) then this little machine makes mincemeat of small jobs that would otherwise take a long time to deal with, without breaking your back. All in all, if you're on a budget (like me) then this little guy performs valiantly and will save you hours. But if you do have the disposable income, I'd suggest one of the $100-$150 corded spot cleaners, because they will do the job in a little more refined manner. This machine is worth every penny they ask for it, but it is missing just a few small points of refinement that would make it an undisputed champion among household cleaning tools.

Very good on carpets

Thiis works very well on carpets, especially if you treat the stain quickly. Being a highly portable unit i also use it on upholstery and here is where I mark it down a star because it doesn't suck up the cleaning fluid very well on anything but carpet. Battery life could also be improved, you only get 15 minutes of power for several hours of charge. However this is still a useful tool if you have lots of spillages and as we have a young baby that is the case with us!

bissell spotlifter 2x

I ordered one of these as it saves me time getting out the larger bissell machine, although the first one i received had to go back as faulty, water leaking from bottom, the replacement came and is working fine. It cost me nearly £13.00 to post this back to supplier via royal mail, not sure at present if this has been refunded. Hoping it has.

Waste of Time

I bought this product to use on carpet pet stains. I do not see any difference between using the Spotlifter and just going at it by hand with a brush and some good carpet cleaner. Firstly, the manual states it only holds 15 minutes of charge. There is no light to indicate that it is charging, that it is fully charged or if the battery is about to use up its charge. Next, the brush is just that - nothing special, doesn't move or rotate. This means a lot of elbow work with a brush that is attached to a machine filled with water which is a lot harder than doing it by hand. It does suck up some water but not much. Save your time and money and look for something else as this is a scam.

Ideal for smal spills

This is the second one of these devices that I have owned. The first lasted a good number of years with the batteries finally not taking a charge. It had been so useful with dealing with things like pet accidents around the house that I had no hesitation in buying a second one. It has a powerful suction and deals effectively with small liquid spills and using it's own spray on more solid matter has proved effective on preventing stains etc. Portable and powerful is how I would describe this device.
