Nice, cheap alternative w/ few compromises

Quick summary: From an OTR/Regional Flatbed Driver w/12yrs exp. Nice sized screen, quick, accurate and worth the money. Great alternative to a big truck Garmin or Rand McNally for the money. Once you spend some time going through and adjusting all of the settings it becomes a much more user friendly and has a more familiar feel to a name brand than when you first use it. I have had it for a few weeks now and it has not lead me down a posted no truck route, it is quicker than my old Garmins by about 50% and I generally do like it. I feel like I got a really good deal and it was worth the time it took to get the settings right and the small compromises listed below. Get it, Driver. It's pretty alright and you save a bunch of money. If you liked my review please clicked that you found it helpful.Full review with tips:Here are some compromises you might have compared to similar, much more expensive units:-The speaker is a little bit more quiet than others but it's usable. Tip: The loudness seems to fluctuate between chosen voices.-Mount is a little flimsy and allows the unit to shake some on rough roads. It stays in position but it can be tricky to navigate the touchscreen menus on very rough roads at times. Tip: Separate, more sturdy 7" universal mounts are widely available and might be a good investment if you will encounter a good amount of rough roads.-From all of the voice selections that spoke the names of the streets I could only fully understand 2 of them.-FM transmitter sometimes needs to be turned off and back on again. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or why, but I have had a couple issues with it. But it connects back very fast and works well 99% of the time.-This is not set up for Truck Drivers straight out of the box. You will have to navigate a bunch of menus and figure out the right settings to get it operating as a Driver GPS. And it does take some time.-There are seperate Dimmer adjustments for the overall screen system brightness and Navigation screen brightness, so if you like to keep the interior lights very dim at night like I do you have to minimize the Navigation and go to the main settings to dim the light even more. But it is an acceptable dimness once you figure it out. Tip: From in Navigon screen long press on the power icon, select "Minimize" to bring you back to the main screen without stopping the nav. Then at the main screen go to Settings, then "Backlight" and move the slider all the way to the left and click the green checkmark. Tada! A nice dim screen.-Sometimes a prompt pops up stating that it has low memory resources and asks to convert some ROM to RAM type thing. You hit ok and it's done. Tip: Keep something pointy handy as the "ok" box is tiny and sometimes a challenge to get it to recognize the poke with your finger.Pros:-Nice sized screen with nice resolution and colors.-Tons of customizable settings. You will wear yourself out trying out all of the options.-Suction cup has yet to loose suction.-Mounting bracket allows for a good amount of adjustability and distance from the dash.-The battery life really isn't horrible considering the cost. It lastsabout an hour or a little more. At this price I'm kinda surprised that it has a battery at all. 99.9% of the time my GPS's are plugged in so it's just a bonus that it has a battery given what it's used for, what you get and the price point.-It has all of the options and features of comparable units costing 8 to 10 times as much with IMO a negligible amount of compromises. It's fast, accurate, has a nice quality picture, big screen and has tons of options for maps, screen layout, vehicles, hazmat type loads, custom height and length and width settings for general and oversized loads, media player for watching movies, music player, calculator, unit converters, driving time management, seperate user profiles, AND will even give you the cup and bra size conversions all over the world! Lol Seriously... It has a converter app for that. (as well as men's and women's shirt, pant, shoe, suit and hat sizes)Conclusion: This is a surprisingly nice GPS for the money. It arrived quickly, on time and undamaged. It's not quite as polished and Truck Driver focused as the top dollar units but it hasn't put me on a restricted road, tells me my speed, creates a 500-600 route in under 5 seconds, reroutes very fast, has a big screen and suites my needs at a fraction of the price. Very satisfied. I would recommend to any driver who wouldn't mind taking the time to customize it and figure out all of the right settings and who doesn't need the most polished GPS.Useful Tips:-Keep your user manual handy. There are tons of different settings to navigate.-To quicken the Navigation when you power it back up go to the main screen go to "Settings", "NaviConfig" and click the box next to Auto Run navigation software on startup.-The "Verbosity" setting in the Sound and Warnings menu adjusts how much the voice announcer will talk about each event. To get her to tell you distance from an exit to turn you need to set it on "Verbose." It took me some time to figure that out so hopefully this will lessen the frustration of others.-To get it to warn of Truck Driver specific things go into the Navigation, click on the wrench and screwdriver icon, then to "Sound and Warnings", "Warning Signs Alerts", "Warning Sign Settings", all the way down is "Truck-specific". I put Audio and Visual and maxed the slider bar out at .6 miles.A few settings that I have been most happy with to save you a little bit of time are:Sound and Warnings:-"Voice Language"-English (US) Amy v229228-"Advanced Settings"-Checked Announce Distant Next Maneuver (You must have this checked if you want it to tell you about exits or turns.)-"Verbosity Level"-Verbose (Again, if you want her to tell you any details that most driver GPS's tell you, this must be set to "Verbose")-"Speed Warning Settings"-Audio and Visual, checked speed always visable and warn when speed set to 130% (If you want the speed limit of the road or highway to be displayed on the Navigation screen you must have this box checked.) -"Curves and Corners" must be set to "Audio and Visual" if you want your upcoming turns in town spoke to you. I maxed the distance out at .6 miles.-"General Warnings" is set to "Audio and Visual" to get other important things to be announced.-To get Weigh Stations, Rest Areas and Truck Stops to appear on the map go you will find them in the "Visual Guidance Settings" menu. Here you have the option to select up to 4 types of things that always sticks out on all of the maps. Click on a line and it will pop up a list you can choose from. Once picked you can click select and choose another line to choose what else you want to pick out. All the way on the bottom click on "Truck". This is where you can select Weigh Stations, Truck Stops, Rest Areas, Truck Repair and Truck Stop/Plaza. If you cack out and just click the circle next to "Truck" is will show all of the things listed under "Truck", but it can leave the map pretty busy. You can select each slot individually in different lines to get the 4 you use the most so the map is less congested and the maps load super quick. I have not tested to see weather it affects how fast it is with a nore cluttered map. It might be just as fast. Also, if you primary fuel at a specific Truckstop you can choose to have just those listed by going into "Gas Stations". It lists all gas stations and truck stops by name. Just choose your favorite and click the circle next to it.I hope you found my review helpful. If so, please click below that this review was helpful.

Surprised by the results

I give it a 4 only because it freezes every single time I try to power it off. I drive a semi and have always had a garmin. I bought a over priced Rand McNaley and it was a huge disappointment. So I bought this for a cheap in between until I could get me another Garmin. ( which was stolen from my personal vehicle, hence replacement.) but after a few weeks of running with this GPS I’ve grown rather fond of it. My thoughts today is, why replace it with a expensive $300 + priced GPS when this one does all the same things but for only $60 bucks. I did loose my tracking and showing of my speed with this gps but I’m good. I like this one. Does the job.

Good investment

Works great. Bought for husband who drives over the road for fedex.

Poor manual but great product

The explanation or instructions were in badly fractured English. Basically worthless and misleading! However I found a couple of you tube videos that showed a step by step "how to set this up". So the result is "It works great."

Do not rely on it for interstate travel

Good item for the money, nice screen with many map options. Good mounting hardware. Has many more options other than gps mapping.

Don’t buy from China

I doubt I will ever buy a commercial truck gps from amazon ever again second try and I’m done. Total junk locked up after charging it stuck in the calibration mode
